The theme for this conference is based on the whakatauki: Maanaki whenua, maanaki tangata, haere whakamua(care for the land, care for the people, go forward). This whakatuaki speaks to the purpose and possibility of EOTC– a place where we can develop our understanding and care towards our places, each other and grow a future that benefits all of us. As part of this we will consider how we can respond to the changes we face, create and influence new possibilities moving forward and strengthen our connections with each other and our environments. You will come away with tools and strategies you can use with you students straight away.
Contemporary topics include:
- Ways to integrate responsive and authentic learning about our environment
- Enhancing student and staff wellbeing through connected learning
- Discovering meaning through Mātauranga Māori and multicultural values/practices
- Navigating and proactively leading changes in education
- Managing the nitty-gritty of EOTC: Health and Safety, managing workload and creative budgeting.
Join us for two days of connection, learning and fun. We look forward to seeing you there.
Day 1 will involve all five hubs (centres) streaming together online to participate in a range of activities. You will engage with our 5 keynote speakers who will support you to consider current/new ideas and practices. This day will be action-packed, thought-provoking and will get you connecting with other educators in your region.
Day 2 has a more practical focus. Each hub will follow an individualised programme based on the needs and interests of the region. We will be out in place, engaging with our local communities and environments and using innovative methods to explore ideas presented on day one. We guarantee you’ll walk away with a brain brimming with new ideas you can’t wait to try out!
This conference is open to all educators from ECE to secondary. We also have a small number of places available in each hub for external education providers (such as environmental educators). We welcome tertiary students to attend – it will be a great place to further enhance your understanding of EOTC.
We have engaged with this style of conference to increase understanding of local place and learning opportunities, encourage greater local networking and to reduce travel costs and the carbon footprint associated with larger conferences.
Unable to attend the conference but don’t want to miss out? We are offering a live stream of the DAY 1 programme for FREE!! Run your own PD session by gathering some colleagues and viewing the content together. To access the live stream, please complete the registration form and select the option ‘Day 1: Live Stream’.
